說明：

自2009年初發生第一起藏人自焚抗議以來，至今已經有超過七十個藏人自焚。世界上還有哪個地方會像中國一樣，讓痛苦掙扎的人們用如此決絕的行動表達他們非暴力的抗議與犧牲的決心？北京政府對藏人自焚的回應則是，強化監控、嚴厲鎮壓、任意逮捕、拘禁、刑求以及恐嚇，並不遺餘力地對自焚者進行人格謀殺。這樣的行為既麻木不仁、具攻擊性且鹵莽不計後果，只會引發更多類似的自焚行動。

面對如此境況，國際社會卻仍然忙著與中國做生意，對藏人的困境裝聾作啞。

圖博社群規模最大歷史也最悠久的獨立運動組織「西藏青年會TYC」的中央執行委員丹增諾桑，將於2012年11月10-11日在台灣召開國際西藏獨立會議亞洲區預備會議。（總計有四場預備會議，包括已經於蘇黎世舉辦歐洲區會議，台灣是第二場，接下來還會在紐約及印度舉辦第三場和第四場）

TYC同時也將舉辦「燃燒的圖博」系列公開的活動，向台灣社會介紹西藏青年會的組織、行動與所追求的獨立目標，並希望台灣人民了解圖博境內自焚狂潮的原因、影響及其政治心理。

*記者會上也會播放一則三分鐘的影片，為TYC製作關於自焚的影像。

TIBET : A Burning Issue

More than seventy Tibetans have to date set themselves on fire.  Where else in the world have a struggle driven people to such an ultimate act of non-violent protest and sacrifice? The Beijing Government’s response to the self-immolations has been stepping up security, intensifying oppression, arrests, detention, torture, intimidation and aggressive engagement in character assassination. This is not only insensitive and offensive but also imprudent, as it will only trigger more such acts.

However, the world continues to remain busy doing business with Beijing and keep a deafening silence on the plight of the Tibetan people.

A Central Executive member of Tibetan Youth Congress - the largest and oldest pro-Independence movement - will be in Taiwan the weekend of the 10 and 11 November convening a regional Tibetan Independence conference. This conference in Taiwan will be followed by two regional conferences in North America and India. Last year, the European leg of the conference was held in Zurich. These regional conferences are a lead up to an International Rangzen (Indepedence) Conference, which will be held next year in India.

Tenzin Norsang will address a press conference on 9 November talking about TYC and the on-going self-immolations inside Tibet today.
